5x100 to 5x5.114.3 adapter?

Can we use 5x5114.3, or do you have to use an adapter for the bolt pattern. Also, which offset is best and can someone explain "offset". I know I am safe with a 35 offset, but why and how? Thanks!

i have researched and researched, the lug pattern on your jetta unless i am mistaken is 5X100 just like mine. if you have rims that are 5X114.3 like i do, you might as well put em on ebay like i'm doin with mine. the adapters range from 1" to 2" thick and that would look stupid unless you wide-bodied. the adapters are expensive and im sure they would create some sort of unhealthy sag somewhere. i was going to get them but then i decided to sell the rims and get something i wanted instead of settled on. i just hope you didnt go through what i did by getting screwed on ebay and ending up with rims that didnt fit afterall.
