these will be replacing the Yokohama Parada Spec-2 tires on the wife's civic. I'll let ya'll know what I think once they get broken in and I find some time to thrash 'em around.
FYI: The Parada Spec-2 tires are louder than Mud tires. They handle well, but the turn in is so fast that they aren't comfortable for daily driving (at least, not as a +2 sizing on a Civic) They want to wander into every dip and groove in the road. My wife can barely drive it without using both hands (slight exaggeration, but I really don't recommend these tires).
The AVON Tech M500s are suppossed to have excellent traction, -esp in the rain- but a slightly softer sidwall. I'm hoping this will let me give me enough traction, without giving up all comfort and control. Like I said, I'll let you know what I think later.

I was at the tire dealer today and picked up the spec 2 brochure .... had to put it back after reading on the back "in all sizes that matter" and there was no 225/45/17! WTF. Since my I am on my second set of Pilot Sport's for the front of the car in 9 months ... I am looking for a tire with great wet/dry traction and better wear.

I've heard Kuhmo MX is the way to go. It's probably the next tire I will be going with. Besides looking great, they handle close to if not as well as the more expensive tires out there like the pilot sport and potenza, last longer, and cost much less....you can't beat that.

LOL...so far they have lightened my tail end.....right where my wallet sits.....but not by an alarming amount.
Actually, these aren't real expensive tires, which is nice for the checkbook.

that's true. It's the softer sidewall that sold me on these (on paper anyhow--we'll see how they drive). I hope they don't tramline as much as the Yokos did.

I had some thick walled Mastercraft LSR's or something on a 99 Cougar, I know they're cheap tires but they gripped like a kid holding candy

OK, the tires only ahve ~150 miles on them, but I can tell you this much:
They are QUIET! It's so nice to be rid of the Parada's which sounded like Mud Grips.
I haven't pushed them yet (need to break in first) but the little driving I have done, they seem to have plenty of traction for that little car.
Only the slightest bit of tramlining. Not bad, especially in a lo pro tire.
