View Full Version : what to do.. budget a concern sooooo
I see myself with 2 possible options for my BBS RC wheels for summer for my R32
...and I need your help to decide...
There is a $225 price difference between these 2 (in a set of 4) so my basic common sense is leaning me towards the cheaper option BUT part of me really wants the other (even though I'll never track the R32)
What you do you guys know about these tires? Anyone used these and have feedback for me?
Hankook Ventus Rs2 Z212

I have never had any personal experience on either of these and only have the magazine article reviews to go on. ..... anyone here with REAL World Experience?

I got the Hankook Ventus Sport K104s for $400 and change (in a 17"), very happy with em.
What about Yoko Advan Neova's?
o.k.
Here is the bottom line:
I can get the Kuhmo 711s shipped to my door for $346
I can get the Hankook's shipped to my door for $530
....you guys need to think about cost of 4 shipped to 60091 on this deal folks!!!

wizzman has the rs2s iirc
K104s would probably fall in between the 711s and those, in terms of price and handling... I'm more than pleased with them and the wet traction is surprisingly good. Sidewalls could be just a tad stiffer, but for a daily driver I'll take the slight compromise in uber-hard cornering for ride comfort.

I have Kuhmo 712s and hate them...loudest darn tire EVER and it hasn't gotten better over time. I can't imagine that the 711s are going to be any better. Nice stiff sidewall, dry traction is very good, wet traction is o.k. I am seriously considering changing to something else come spring based on the fact that I can't stand the sound of 'em anymore. Go with the Hankooks, you will be miserable with the Kuhmos.

I think my old man has the 711s on the MCS, not sure how he likes 'em now that they've been on for a few months, maybe Nick can chime in. I do know he about shit his pants in the snow though :D

LOL..
I have snow tires on the car on 17s right now so this would be for SUMMER ONLY!
I know all about how crappy the 712s are and would never own them....
My dad has Kuhmo's on his caravan and they are quiet as can be so I have my doubts about the 711s being as bad as the horrid 712s well known to be crap in the industry :(

i say if its just the difference of a couple hundred dollars, and the funds are somewhat available...then get the ones you want. I've shorted myself so many times by trying to save a few bucks, i wind up spending more money in the long run, when i upgrade to something else. but thats just me..

Tires are one of the things worth spending money on.

I couldnt justify paying more for a lower tread waer tire on a car that will not be raced, just driven spirititly. i'd go with the kuhmos.
I have Yoko AVIDs for my DD tires and they are a great comprimise on price, preformance, ride quality, and tread life.

yeah... there is that... I will never track the R32... but I do enjoy spirited driving..
then again.. I loved the Bridgestone RE92As a ton.. just can't afford them now :(
..I'd like a quiet tire... and I get the feeling the kuhmo wont' be quiet.. I know the S03 tire is quiet until they go well below the wear bars so I dunno...
...anyone know if the hankook is quiet?
my hankook snow tires are surprisingly quiet for a snow tire.. quieter than my previoiusly owned Nokian or Blizzaks

how about Toyo Proxes T1r (http://www.toyo.com/tires/tire_lines/sports_car/tr1.html) [225/45/18] shipped to you for $708.52? it's a little more but they are 280 treadwear and 23#s with good reviews...
Kuhmo MX or Dunlop FM901
I have the Dunlop FM901 Sports , they are an awsome tire for spirited road drivein , I would have no idea how they handle on the track since I am a 2.slow and would never track my car.

thanks! I showed them to Eric and he have the thumbs up for them as a great tire to get!
...so FM901s it is :)bigparty:
I have the Ventus Rs2s on my little pinkies and 711s on my LBs. The 711's are fine for what I call "spirited driving" on a daily basis, but I always wish I had my Rs2s on. I only use my Rs2s for track use and an occasional "what the hell, lets throw those beasts on" drive. That being said, our views may differ greatly on what is your best option. If you want the best tire for the money, I'll tell you to definitely go with the Rs2. If you just want a tire that won't start to lose traction when you enter an entrance/exit ramp at 75-80mph then get the Rs2. If you can settle for less and are just looking for a "chill" tire, then get the 711. If you're looking for fun, definitely go with the Rs2. Hope this doesn't sound too biased..
thanks... I have my other track car for fun with dedicated R compounds..... my R32 is 100% stock so I don't think I need that same 'oh my god, they better stick better' that I do at the track...
...but thank you very much for the observations.. It does help a lot!
...and I'm probably actually switching gears the to recommended FM901 Dunlop... I've been really happy with the DSSRs in a track setting and the FM901 looks like a great 'street' alternative ;)

I'm in the market for new tires come spring too. I've had my eye on the Yoko AVS ES100's or the Exta MX.
The FM901's don't rank too well on Tirerack...
